Odisha STA says ASI cannot collect fines and issue e-challans on Tuesday. The government withdrew the power of Assistant Sub-Inspectors.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha STA says ASI cannot collect fines and issue e-challans on Tuesday. The government withdrew the power of Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI), Traffic to collect fines and issue E-challans under the Motor Vehicles Act in Odisha.

According to latest reports it is worth noting that, the STA says Assistant Sub-Inspectors cannot collect fines. Further, the Traffic ASIs can neither collect fines or issue e-challans nor penalize traffic violators, the Odisha STA stated.

The new rules were applied by the Odisha STA saying ASI cannot collect fines after regular allegations that the traffic policemen were collecting fines illegally from bikers.

In a letter to all the regional and Additional Regional Transport Officers said that the STA shall  withdraw its previous order which enabled the traffic police to collect fines.

Further it is worth mention here that on September 13, the STA  had directed that the traffic ASIs could deduct fines and issue e-challans against those violating traffic rules.
