Panchayat Polls: Once again Journalist attacked in Odisha

Balasore: After yesterday’s attack on journalists in Jajpur of Odisha, today once again a journalist was attacked in Odisha. This time the case took place in Balasore district of Odisha.

As per reports, the matter took place over clicking photograph during poll campaign. As per the injured journalist he was trying to capture the news and photo of poll campaign that was going on after 7 pm which is a case of violation of the norms of the guidelines issued in this respect. In the attack a scribe sustained injury. However, after primary treatment, he was discharged from the hospital.

Moreover, it has also been reported that the members of a certain political party forcefully took away the accused from the custody of Police. Tension is still prevailing in the area due to this incident.

The victim scribe has lodged an FIR at Nilagiri Police Station where he has also mentioned that he has been  intimidated with lethal action. A case has been registered in this regard.

Taking action in this case, Nilagiri Thana Police on Monday morning visited the spot for investigation and nabbed two accused persons. However, at that time large number of people from a certain political party stopped the Police vehicle and forcefully took away the accused person from Police custody.  However, the members of that certain political party have described the case otherwise.

They have said that the youth was campaigning for a certain political party. The accused has been intentionally entangled in a false case. Police returned without the accused person.

It is to be noted that 3 journalists were brutally assaulted in Jajpur district on Sunday while they were covering the third phase of Odisha Panchayat polls. The journalists are from leading private Odia channels.

Reports said, the three journalists had gone to cover the alleged loot of ballot boxes from two booths no 4 and 6 at Bachala Panchayat under Binjharpur block when they were brutally assaulted by some unidentified miscreants. The miscreants reportedly threw the boxes in a nearby pond. The vehicles of the journalists were also reportedly ransacked.
