Gajapati: A man, contesting for the post of Sarpanch was brutally attacked by miscreants late on Sunday night ahead of the three-tier panchayat election in Odisha.
Reportedly, the victim has been identified as Cheli Prasad Rao. He is contesting for the post of Sarpanch of Sardapur panchayat.
It has been learnt that Rao was returning after his campaign late last night while he was brutally attacked by some unidentified miscreants. The miscreants are said to be some men belonging to the opposition group.
Rao was rushed to Paralakhemundi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition and was later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.
On getting the information, the police arrived at the spot and initiated an investigation into the violence.
Earlier this morning it was reported that bombs were hurled at Kathakhuntu panchayat sarpanch candidate’s house in Narsinghpur of Cuttack last night. The asbestos of the house and items of furniture have been damaged. However, no injury or casualty has been reported in this connection as of now.
