Odisha: Official caught red-handed while taking bribe

Keonjhar: A senior clerk of the Ghasipura Block Education Officer in Odisha’s Keonjhar district was on Tuesday caught red-handed while he was taking a bribe of Rs 1000 in cash from a teacher.

The accused has been identified as Santosh Kumar Dhir.

According to official sources, Mukunda Charan Sahu, posted as Head Master at Bhaganai Upper Primary School in Ghasipura block, approached Dhir to clear a file that sanctions latter’s annual increment of the year 2019 due since June 2019 and requested him to file the same in his Service Book.

However, the senior clerk demanded bribe from the teacher to clear the file.

Fed up with the demand of the senior clerk, Sahu lodged a complaint against Dhir at Vigilance office.

On the basis of Sahu’s complaints, Officers of Vigilance Balasore Division made a trap and caught the accused red handed.

Vigilance officials recovered the tainted bribe money from the possession of the accused and seized. Both hand wash and pant pocket wash gave positive chemical reaction.

Later, the vigilance sleuths conducted a raid at Dhir’s residence and registered a case against him.
