Odisha CM approves 416 new posts in BMC

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned 416 additional posts for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned 416 additional posts for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday. The number of posts has increased from 210 to 626, said reports.

BMC is the largest autonomous body in the state. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is responsible for further enhancing the identity of Bhubaneswar as the capital of the state and as a modern city as well as preserving the historic proportions of this historic city.

In view of the ever-increasing population, its responsibility to provide basic amenities to the public is steadily increasing. For this, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned 416 additional posts for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the corporation will be more efficient and effective with this addition of posts.

It is to be noted that while earlier there were 210 sanctioned posts in BMC, the creation of these additional 416 posts has increased its total number of posts to 626.

Earlier there was one post of Additional Commissioner in the administrative department of the Corporation, now three more posts of Additional Commissioner have been created and the total number of posts has been increased to four. Similarly, six new zonal commissioner posts have also been created.

While there were already three Deputy Commissioner posts, 13 new posts have been created, taking the total number of Deputy Commissioner posts to 16.

Along with this, while there are already four posts of Assistant Sanitation Commissioner, nine more posts have been created, making a total of 13 posts of Assistant Sanitation Commissioner.

Eleven new posts have been created in the finance department of the corporation while four new posts have been created in the planning department. 17 new posts in Engineering (Works) Department, five new posts in Sanitation (Engineering) Department.

Likewise, 20 new posts in Drainage Department, creation of two new posts in Mechanical Department, one in Legal Department, two in Public Relations Department, seven in Beautification and Landscaping Department, four in Animal Welfare Department, 13 in Social Welfare Department, one in Disaster and Emergency Services Department, 19 in Enforcement Department, 93 in Clerical Department and 187 in Ward Office Department.

The Engineering (Works) Department has been increased to six from the existing two Civil Executive Officers. Similarly, the post of Assistant Executive Officer has been increased from seven to 13 and the number of Civil Junior Engineering posts has been increased from 17 to 24.

As sanitation (engineering) is an important sector, five new posts have also been created in it. It includes one Executive Officer (Sanitation), one Additional Executive Officer (Sanitation) and three Junior Engineers (Sanitation).

Similarly, 20 new posts have been created in the drainage department. It has one executive officer, seven additional executive officers and 12 junior engineer posts.

187 new posts have been created as Ward Management is the most important area. Earlier it had 81 posts. Now the total number of posts is 268. 67 new posts of Ward Officer have been created in this while there was no post of Ward Officer earlier.

Similarly, the number of posts of Ward Revenue Officer (Tax Collector) has increased to 67 from 50. While the number of posts of Sanitary Inspector is six, 61 new posts have been added. Similarly, the number of posts of Community Organizer has been increased from 25 to 67.
