Balasore: Vigilance officials of Balasore district unit arrested Koustuv Mohapatra, Junior Engineer (JE) of North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Limited (NESCO), while he was accepting bribe from a villager of Parikhama village under Gadapokhari panchayat in the district yesterday.
Vigilance sources said, the accused JE had demanded Rs 1,500 from Ramakant Rout of Parikhama village to replace a transformer in the area which had burnt due to technical snag on August 14.
After Rout lodged a complaint with Vigilance Department in connection with the case, the sleuths laid a trap yesterday and caught the accused JE red-handed while accepting the bribe amount at his office located at Khaira. He was later taken into custody.
Raids were also conducted at the Khaira residence of the arrested JE, who has been detained at the Balasoere Vigilance Office for interrogation.
