National Handloom Mela Starts In Bhubaneswar, Participants From 84 Places

Bhubaneswar: The 20th National Handloom Fair has been launched by the state government in association with Boynika to showcase all the textile arts of our country in one place and accelerate its commercial viability.

The National Handloom Fair will be held till February 17 at the Unit-3 Idco Exhibition Grounds in Bhubaneswar.

Minister for Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Padmini Dian inaugurated the fair yesterday in the evening. The inaugural function was attended by Minister for Science and Technology, Public Enterprises, Social Security and Differential Empowerment Ashok Chandra Panda, MLA Anant Narayan Jena, Handloom, Weaving and Handicrafts Department Commissioner and Administrative Secretary Shubha Sharma, Director of Textiles and Textiles.

There are 134 stalls at the fair. Of these, four stalls are for various handlooms and committees in Odisha. The remaining 84 stalls have been donated to participating states.

The fair shall see the participation of about six organizations from Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Odisha.

The timings of the fair will be from 11:30 am to 9.30 pm. Special discounts are being provided on each garment.

All steps have been taken to strictly adhere to the Covid guidelines.
