Mother-daughter dies after drowning in pond in Odisha’s Nayagarh district

A woman and her daughter reportedly died after drowning in a pond at Gholahandi village under Daspalla police limits in Nayagarh district on Tuesday.

Nayagarh: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman and her daughter reportedly died after drowning in a pond at Gholahandi village under Daspalla police limits in Nayagarh district on Tuesday.

As per sources, Rina Pradhan and her daughter Barsha had gone to take bath in the pond at Ostasahi Chhak of their village this afternoon. However, Barsha accidentally entered into deep waters and started to drown.

On seeing her daughter drowning, Rina soon swung into action and tried her best to rescue her. But, unfortunately, both of them drowned.

The local fire personnel were informed by some locals about the incident. Following this, the firefighters rushed to the spot and rescued the mother-daughter with the help of locals.

Both of them were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. But, the doctors declared of them brought dead.

Meanwhile, Daspalla police started an investigation into the matter. They have sent the bodies for postmortem.

On the other hand, a pall of gloom descended on the village following the death of the two from the same village and that is too during Dussehera celebration.
