Bhubaneswar: Under the rules of the New Excise Policy for 2023-24, liquor will become costly in Odisha from April 1, 2023.

According to reports, Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) prices will increase from April 1. It is worth mentioning that, the State Government has made a slight increase in the excise tax on IMFL. Apart from this reports say that, permission will not be given to open any new off-shop shops in the state till the next financial year.

According to the new excise policy, there has been a slight increase in license fee, MGQ (MGQ is the quantity of the liquor as fixed by the licensing authority in accordance with general or specific instructions issued by the Excise Commissioner and guaranteed by the licensee to be lifted by him for his retail shop during an excise year for the purpose of retail sale), application fee for brewing, supplier and retailer fees.

A crackdown on the increase in the number of all types of off-shop liquor shops has been issued.

The government has given permission for the renovation of all the shops. The Excise Commissioner can issue on-supply license only in urban areas keeping in view the number of rooms of star hotels and other hotels. The license fee for all types of on-shop liquor shops has been fixed at Rs 2 lakh.

Similarly, the cost of renewal of off-shop license has been fixed at 1 lakh 20 thousand rupees. Military canteen license renewal fee is 25 thousand rupees while the license fee has been fixed in 20 categories. Traders can keep 12% profit on all types of beer. 10% on domestic wine, 10% on imported foreign wine and wine, said reports.
