Iconic Barabati to become world-class stadium, Rs 600-Rs 700 crore to be spent for development

The City-based iconic Barabati Stadium to be developed into a world-class stadium and Rs 600 to Rs 700 crore will be spent for the same.

Cuttack: The City-based iconic Barabati Stadium to be developed into a world-class stadium and Rs 600 to Rs 700 crore will be spent for the same. Decision to this effect was taken during the annual General Meeting of the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA).

As per the decision taken in the meeting, the Rs 600 to Rs 700 crore for the renovation and development of the stadium will be spent from the assistance provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Odisha government.

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be will be prepared by January 2024. However, the association will take a final decision either to demolish the stadium completely or partially.

Meanwhile, the process to give a new look to three galleries of the Stadium has already reportedly started.

The meeting also decided to apprise the BCCI regarding the exclusion of the stadium from hosting international matches. The association, however, is hopeful that the Barabati stadium would get matches in future on rotation basis.

This apart, the junior and senior inter-club matches being held at the venue annually will now be organised once in two years, informed OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera adding that with this focus can be given to the inter-district matches.

Players from the grassroot level will be selected by conducting such inter-district matches, he added.
