Cuttack: A huge clay statue of veteran Odia film actor late Mihir Das was inaugurated at the Shilpi Kumbhar Sahi of Cuttack on Friday on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Das passed away recently and the statue is a tribute to him.
The artisans of the Odisha Mrunmaya Shilpi Sangha in Cuttack have carved this huge statue as in respect of the late actor. The artisans have perfectly created the 7 feet high statue.
Many actors and biggies of Odia film industry paid a visit to the Kumbhar sahi to pay their homage to the great actor. Many art lovers, members of the Peace Committee, politician and bureaucrats also visited the sahi and paid their homage to the actor.
As per reports, about 15 artisans spent 10 days to make the said statue. Some actors have said that the clay statue will be kept either at the Kalinga Studio or in any other suitable place so that it can be preserved as a memento.
On this occasion discussions are going on regarding release of Mihir Das acted film ‘Matira Bandhana’ (The Bond of soil). Although this film has been completed since 2012 it is yet to hit the silver screen. Artists and artisans have opined that the film should be released at the earliest. They have urged the State Government in this regard.
Mihir Das was born in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj on February 17, 1959. He debuted in the Odia film industry with an art film School Master and then in commercial (non-art) film Mathura Bijay in 1979.
He was married to singer and film artist Sangita Das, the daughter of the popular singer, Chitta Jena. She died in 2010 due to a heart attack.
Mihir Das and Sangita Das have a son, Amlan Das, who is also an actor in the Ollywood industry.
He received wider applause and recognition for his performance in Pua Mora Bholashankar. A veteran actor for more than three decades, he received Best Actor award from the state government for his performance in movies Laxmi Protima in 1998 and Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni in 2005.
