Heart-wrenching! Five-year-old girl on her visit to uncle’s village drowns in front of mother in Jajpur

Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a five-year-old girl reportedly died after drowning in Kharasrota river at Jari village under Binjharpur police station limits of Jajpur district today.

The minor girl who is identified as Soni Mallick of Balakati village in Kendrapara district had reportedly gone to her uncle’s village on a visit.

This morning, Soni’s mother went to the Kharasrota river to take bath. She took Soni along with her and left her on the river bank to play while she entered the river to have a bath. However, Soni gradually went to the river and was swept away by the strong current of water before her mother could notice and rescue her.

Soon, Soni’s mother raised an alarm and cried for help, following which the villagers rushed to river and rescued the minor girl in a critical condition. Immediately, they took the girl to the local hospital for treatment, but unfortunately doctor declared her brought dead.

Binjharpur police rushed to the hospital after getting information about Soni’s death and sent her body for postmortem after seizing it. A case of unnatural death was also registered by the police.

Meanwhile, the heart-wrenching sent shockwaves in the locality with one and all condoling the unfortunate death of the minor girl.
