Nabarangpur: In a saddening incident, members of a family carried the body of a deceased member on their shoulders and walked around eight kilometres in Nabarangpur district on Tuesday.

As per reports, one Demati Majhi, the wife of Narendra Majhi, a native of Saradhapur village under Chandahandi block of the district, breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the Chandahandi Community Health Centre (CHC).

Later, the family members contacted the staff of the Mahaprayan vehicle to take Demati’s body to the village. However, as they allegedly kept waiting for around three hours, the family members carried the body on their shoulders to reach the village.

On the other hand, Chandahandi CHC in-charge, Dr Sandeep Satpathy denied the allegations saying that he had informed the cops as Demati had died before reaching the hospital. Instead of conducting the postmortem they took the body forcefully, Satpathy claimed.

The hearse van of the Chandahandi hospital has been given for repairing as it was not in a good condition and it takes long hours if the vehicle is called from the Umerkote Hospital.
