BJD’s Sulochana Das takes oath as Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Mayor

Bhubaneswar: The newly elected representative of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Sulochana Das has taken oath as Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor on Saturday.

Reportedly, Sulochana Das was sworn in as the first woman Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). She was administered the oath by Director of Municipal Administration, Sangramjit Nayak.

According to the data shared by the State election commission, Sulochana Das got 174562 and won the BMC Mayor election with a margin of over 61,000 votes

Sulochana Das started her career as a journalist. She began her political journey with the Congress and later joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). She also worked as the regional party’s spokesperson.

Earlier in 2019, she was made the state commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) by the Odisha government.

The Newly elected 67 Corporators were also sworn in en-mass today, added reports.

Notably, the elections for the Deputy Mayor post in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be held from 1.30 PM to 3.30 PM today.

The names that are most talked about are Lal Mohan Tudu of Ward 8 and Biplab Behera of Ward 18. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has a total of 67 wards.
