Tomatoes burn hole in pockets, prices cross Rs. 100 all over India!

The tomatoes prices have hiked upto Rs 80-120 per kg in the retail market, while Rs 65-70 per kg in wholesale market.

New Delhi: The country is experiencing hike in the price of multiple vegetables due to acute shortage of veggies in the market. The tomatoes prices have hiked upto Rs 80-120 per kg in the retail market. While the price is recorded to be Rs 65-70 per kg in wholesale market.

The high prices can be attributed to high temperature, low production and delayed rainfall in most parts of India. The sudden surge in tomato prices, which in May where being sold for Rs 3-5 per kg, has added to the inflation woes of the Reserve Bank of India(RBI).

According to reports, the sowing to tomato last year was less as most of the farmers shifted to planting beans which had witnessed a high price in 2022. However, it is not necessary that the high prices will continue in the coming weeks.

The deficiency is expected to make changes in prices on the food menu of eateries and restaurants giving a hard time to the consumers.
