Bengaluru: A passenger on a Mumbai-Bengaluru SpiceJet flight locked inside flight toilet for entire journey due to malfunction in the door.

The passenger was locked for almost an hour inside the tiny lavatory. He was rescued after the flight landed at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) by the engineers.

According to sources, the incident took place on Flight SG-268, which took from Mumbai airport at 2 am on Tuesday. After the take-off, the passenger from seat 14D went to the toilet. But did not return back as the door failed to open. The crew tried to open but in vain.

When the crew mid-air realised that they are not able to open the door, one of the air hostess penned down a note and slid inside the lavatory door to calm the trapped passenger.

The note read, “Sir we tried our best to open the door, however, we could not. Do not panic. We are landing in a few minutes, so please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, engineer will come.”

The flight landed at 3.42 am. The engineers then boarded the plane, broke open and rescued the man after two hours.

Later, the SpiceJet issued a statement confirming the incident and apologised for the inconvenience caused, saying it would provide a full refund to the passenger.
