PM Modi lays foundation stones of City Gas Distribution projects

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones of City Gas Distribution (CGD) Projects in 65 Geographical Areas across India, including seven in Odisha, from here on Thursday.

In Odisha, the CGD projects will cover as many as 17 districts including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda , Jajpur, Kendujhar , Angul, Dhekanal , Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj , Bargarh, Debagarh, Sambalpur , Ganjam, Nayagarh, Puri , Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara .

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that India will strive to fulfil the targets for Clean Energy and Gas Based Economy not just for itself, but for the whole of humanity and the future generations.

He also said, Government is increasing the number of LNG terminals and working on Nationwide Gas Grid and City Gas Distribution together to strengthen the gas infrastructure in the country.

Modi also launched 10th City Gas Distribution Bidding Round in 50 Geographical Areas spread over 124 districts in 14 states.

In his address, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, Government is working to move towards the gas-based economy. He said, presently the share of gas in the country’s energy mix is just over 6 per cent and the aim is to reach the 15 per cent.

CGD networks will increase the availability of clean cooking fuel or Piped Natural Gas and transportation fuel Compressed Natural Gas for consumers.
