New Delhi: During the final day of the G20 Summit in New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally handed over the G20 presidency to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Brazil is set to lead the G20 in 2024 and will subsequently pass the presidency to South Africa for the 2025 G20 Summit.

During the concluding session, Prime Minister Modi passed the ceremonial gavel to President Lula da Silva, extending his best wishes to Brazil for their upcoming presidency. Brazil will officially assume the G20 presidency on December 1 of this year.

In his remarks, President Lula da Silva congratulated Prime Minister Modi and expressed gratitude to India for its efforts in addressing issues important to emerging economies.

Notably, the G20 Leaders’ Summit saw a historic development as the African Union was welcomed as a permanent member. This step reflects the growing importance of African nations in the global economic landscape.

India, as the current holder of the G20 presidency, chose the theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future” for this year’s summit, emphasising the need for international collaboration to address global challenges.

The G20 Summit took place at the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre in New Delhi on September 9, and it marked an important moment in international diplomacy.
