Major accident averted at Pune airport

Pune: A major accident was averted at the Pune airport on Saturday as the pilots of an Air India plane took off at a slower speed than usual after seeng a jeep and a man on the runway.

However, the plane received damages in its tail area during the take-off.

The incident occurred when the cockpit crew of the Air India A-321 noticed a person and a jeep on the runway.  Though the aircraft  received damages during its take off,  it safely landed at New Delhi airport , its destination.

On arrival at Delhi, some damage was observed on fuselage skin and frames. The aircraft has been withdrawn from service for investigation. Air India has been advised to coordinate with Pune ATC also to find out any marking on runway,” sources said.

Meanwhile, the civil aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a probe into an incident. Air India has also been advised to coordinate with Pune Air Traffic Control during the investigation, sources said.
