Maharashtra: 17 dead after girder launching machine collapses in Thane

The crane and slab connecting the grider machine fell from a height of 100 feet, resulting in a major accident.

Thane: As per latest reports, the death toll has been risen to 17 and three were injured after girder machine collapses during Samruddhi Expressway construction in Thane. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

Apart from the dead, several others are believed to be trapped beneath the debris.

The crane and slab connecting the grider machine fell from a height of 100 feet, resulting in a major accident. The dead bodies were taken to a local hospital, along with those injured.

As per the information, the machine was being used in the construction of Phase III of the Samruddhi Express Highway.

Police personnel, NDRF personnel, and fire officials are engaged in rescue and relief work. It is feared that the death toll may rise.

The Samruddhi Mahamarg, which is named Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, is a 701-km-long expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur.

CM Eknath Shinde, says “Rs 5 lakhs ex-gratia will be given to the next of kin of the deceased. It is an unfortunate incident. A company based in Switzerland was working here. Instructions have been given for its thorough investigation. The NDRF team has reached the spot and has given instructions for rescue work. Our concern department officials and Minister are present at the spot”
