ISRO’s Aditya L1 to be injected into final orbit today

ISRO’s (Indian Space Research Organisation) Aditya L1 spacecraft is set to enter the final orbit for its destination today.

New Delhi: ISRO’s (Indian Space Research Organisation) Aditya L1 is set to enter the final orbit for its destination today. At around 4pm today, the spacecraft will be injected into its final orbit.

Speaking to ANI earlier in the week, ISRO chief S Somanath said “Aditya L1 is going to reach its L1 point on January 6 at 4pm and we are going to do the final manoeuvre to keep it there.

According to officials from ISRO, the spacecraft is going to be put into a halo orbit within its L1 point of the system. This remains at around 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth. Interestingly, the L1 point is just about one percent of the distance between the sun and earth.

Once at the final point, it will become possible for the spacecraft to observe the sun without any eclipses.

Aditya L1 was launched back on September 2, 2023 by the Polar satellite Launch vehicle (PSLV-C57). It is India’s first space based solar mission. It is after a journey of 127 days the Aditya L1 spacecraft will enter its final orbit today during the afternoon hours.

The mission of Aditya L1 mission is to study the chromosphere and corona, upper atmospheric dynamics, of the sun.
