ISRO Chief S Somnath was diagnosed with Cancer on the launch day of Aditya L1 mission

New Delhi: In recent news, it was revealed that ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) Chief S Somnath was diagnosed with cancer on the launch day of India’s Aditya L1 mission.

During an interview with Tarmak Media House, ISRO Chief S Somnath revealed about the growth that was detected in one of his scans.

He said, “There were some health issued during the Chandrayaan-3 mission launch. However, it was not clear to me at the time; I did not have a clear understanding of it.”

Further, he also said that his condition was confirmed on the day when Aditya L1 mission was launched into the space. In the interview, he recalled that the news had come as a shock to him and his family members. He mentioned that his dear ones remained by his side throughout the challenging period.

S Somnath said, “It was a shock for the family. But now, I perceive cancer and its treatment as a solution.”

He further added, “I was uncertain about a complete cure at the time, I was undergoing the process. I will be undergoing regular checkups and scans. But now, I am completely cured, and have resumed my duties.”

It is noteworthy mentioning that S Somnath moved to Chennai for further checkup, which confirmed the presence of a hereditary disease. After which, Somnath underwent an operation which was followed by chemotherapy.

Within a few days after recovering from cancer, S Somnath resumed his duties at ISRO.

On September 2, ISRO launched a rocket to study the sun from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The most trusted PSLV carried the Aditya L1 mission on a 125-day voyage to the Sun.
