India to observe two minutes silence today! Here is why

New Delhi: Entire India will observe a two-minute silence today. Schools, colleges, offices, communities and places of religious significance across the country will hold silence today. It will be observed at 11 am from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kohima to Kutch.

The two-minute silence will be observed to mark the 71stanniversary of the Martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation, the apostle of Harmony, Peace and Non-Violence.

The Union government has directed every state and the Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to observe the two-minute silence today.

According to reports, everyone will be alerted at 10.59 am through a cyron sound. It will continue till 11 am to begin the silence. Then there will be another cyron sound at 11.2 am to conclude it. Wherever there is no facility of any cyron sound, people have to observe two minutes of silence as per the timing.

Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948, while on his way to address a prayer meeting.
