India reports 16,764 new Covid cases,220 deaths

New-Delhi: In the last 24 hours, India registered 16,764 new Covid-19 cases and 220 deaths, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday.

With the addition of the new fatalities, the total death toll has climbed at 4,81,080.

The active caseload currently stands at 91,361. Active cases account for less than 1 per cent of total cases, currently at 0.26 per cent

A total 7,585 people recovered or were discharged in the last 24 hours. Recovery rate is currently at 98.36 per cent.

The Daily positivity rate (1.34 per cent) is less than 2 per cent for last 88 days and the weekly positivity rate (0.89 per cent) is less than 1 per cent for last 47 days.

India’s Omicron count crossed the 1,000-mark as the highly-mutated variant of the coronavirus continues to spread at an alarming rate across the country, according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare on Friday.

The health ministry said there were 1,270 cases of Omicron detected so far from 23 states and Union territories, adding 374 people have been discharged. Maharashtra and Delhi are leading the Omicron tally and have reported 450 and 320 cases respectively.
