India Approves 2 More Covid Vaccines: Covovax, Corbevax

Bhubaneswar: The Central Government on Tuesday cleared two more vaccines and one anti-viral drug to boost the fight against COVID.

The two latest vaccines cleared by India are Corbevax and Covovax. The antiviral Covid-19 pill Molnupiravir also got approval for emergency use.

According to reports, the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on COVID-19 of the Central Drugs Standard to Control Organisation (CDSCO) reviewed the emergency use authorization (EUA) application for the second time on Monday and after detailed deliberation recommended granting emergency use authorisation to Covovax.

The nanoparticle vaccine, Covovax, will be manufactured by Pune-based firm Serum Institute of India, which also makes Covishield.

Corbevax is India’s first homegrown “RBD protein sub-unit vaccine”, the Health Minister said. It is made by the Hyderabad-based firm Biological-E. It is the third vaccine made in India.

Ridgeback is collaborating with Merck on developing molnupiravir. It is administered as four 200 milligram capsules taken orally every 12 hours for five days, for a total of 40 capsules.
