Here’s Why One Should Take Both Doses Of COVID-19 Vaccine
India has recorded 2.17 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases and a total of 1185 deaths in the last 24 hours. This is the second consecutive day that India reported over two lakh cases.
Vaccination drive is being conducted across the country with an aim to check the spread of the pandemic. So, it is very important to take the vaccine. However, fresh reports say that only one dose of vaccine is not enough, it is very important to get two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Even people have raised several questions about it.
Now people have started asking that can someone skip the second shot? Or, can he take it late if the second appointment got messed up or they cannot make it on the exact day?
Meanwhile, the Centre on Friday released a video on why citizens need to take two doses of the vaccine. The video was shared on the Press Information Bureau in Maharashtra’s official Twitter account.
In the video Dr Randeep Guleria Chief of New Delhi, AIIMS explained the importance of the vaccine. It is important to get two doses in order to achieve full protection from COVID-19. You may gain some level of protection from one shot, but the second booster is vital for complete immunity, he added.
The AIIMS Chief said that the first dose, known as the ‘prime dose’, prepares the human immune system to build antibodies. However, these antibodies won’t last for a long time. So, it is important to take the second dose.
After the second dose, called the ‘booster dose’, the immune system receives the boost to produce a large number of antibodies, he added.
Is the first dose enough?
No, 2 doses are essential to give us protection.
