Malkangiri: A hardcore Maoist was gunned down in an encounter by Dantewada police in Chhattisgarh. The deceased has been identified as Muchaki Masa who was involved in violence in both Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
Muchaki Masa was reportedly carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team of Dantewada police went on an operation inside a forest in Suran area after movements of Maoists were reported from the jungle.
A gunfight broke out in the forest between the security personnel and the Maoists following which the red rebels fled from the spot. However, Masa suffered bullet injuries and died on the spot.
Many rifles, explosives and other arms used by the Maoists were recovered from the forest.
