Excessive rise in water level leads to temporary suspension of rail traffic on Old Yamuna Bridge

The decision of suspending rail traffic on old Yamuna bridge was taken after the water level crossed the danger mark of 205.33 metres.

New Delhi: With the water level in the Yamuna crossing the danger level mark in Delhi, the Railways temporarily suspended rail traffic on the Old Yamuna Bridge, on July 11.

Deepak Kumar said, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northern Railways’ said that the rail traffic over the Old Yamuna Bridge has been temporarily suspended since 6 a.m. on July 11 (Tuesday).

He mentioned that the decision was taken after the water level crossed the danger mark of 205.33 metres in the national capital due to the release of water from Hathni Kund barrage in Haryana.

Currently, the water level is hovering at 206.24 metres, triggering a high alert, according to the Central Water Commission (CWC).

The development came as more rain is predicted in the city throughout the week, after three continuous days of rainfall, The rains triggered waterlogging in several areas of the national capital.
