Delhi: Govt bans students, teachers from using mobile phones in classrooms

The advisory from the Delhi Government emphasized on the importance of regulating the usage of mobile phones in school premises.

New Delhi: The Education department under Delhi government issued a notice on August 10 banning the usage of mobile phone in all government and private classrooms.

The advisory also urges parents to ensure that their children do not carry cell phones to school. It also mentioned that in case a student comes to the school with a cell phone, then the school authorities shall make adequate and appropriate arrangements for safe custody of lockers.

Therein, students will have to deposit their mobile phones once they reach school. The cells phones shall be given back to them at the time of return from schools.

The notice also mentioned that the incidents of bullying, harassment, and photographing, recording, or uploading inappropriate content are actions that can have severe impact on the future of the child.

The advisory mentioned how mobile phone has become one of the most commonly used gadgets in everyone’s life. However, overuse of smartphone can result in several issues in the body. It can also cause distractions in the learning process. Subsequently, it can negatively impact academic performance, life satisfaction, face-to-face conversation quality, connection and closeness.”

Further, the advisory emphasized on the importance of regulating the usage of mobile phones in school premises. It said that all stakeholders of the school need to minimize the usage of mobile phones in their child’s daily life.

Lastly, the advisory from Delhi government banning the use of phones in classroom also restrains teachers and other staff from using mobile phones during the teaching learning activities, like, in classrooms, playgrounds, laboratories, and library.
