Daily Covid-19 cases drops in India, Omicron at 4461

New-Delhi: After several days of spike in the Covid-19 cases, India on Tuesday witnessed a drop in the fresh covid cases with 1,68,063 positives, according to data published by the Union health ministry.

Also, as many as 277 more people succumbed due to the virus in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total reported death count to 4,84,213.

However, the active Covid cases in the country stand at 8,21,446.  The daily positivity rate stands at 10.64 %.

A total of 4,461 Omicron cases were reported in 27 States/UTs of India so far, according to the data by the Union Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, India has now begun to administer the precaution dose of Covid vaccine to healthcare and frontline workers and people with comorbidities aged 60 and above.

The Centre has now mandated seven-day quarantine for all international arrivals from January 11.

The top five states that registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 33,470 cases, followed by West Bengal with 19,286 cases, Delhi with 19,166 cases, Tamil Nadu with 13,990 cases and Karnataka with 11,698 cases.
