Covid-19: Zydus Virafin Gets Emergency Use Approval By DCGI

New-Delhi: Pharmaceutical company Zydus Cadila on Friday received emergency use approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for the use of ‘Virafin’ in treating moderate COVID-19 cases.

Virafin, technically referred to as Pegylated Interferon alpha-2b, was found to be successful in treating infected patients diagnosed with mild symptoms, Zydus said.

A single dose subcutaneous regimen of the antiviral drug will make treatment of COVID-19 disease more convenient.

The company said, “When administered early on during COVID, Virafin will help patients recover faster and avoid much of the complications.The antiviral will be available on the prescription of medical specialists for use in hospital/institutional setups.
