Chandigarh: The Chandigarh mayoral election is underway today (January 30) amid heavy security, and the battle is between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition INDIA bloc.
The polling started at around 10 am.
The elections to the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor are being held following directions from Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Security has been tightened outside the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation office. Around 800 police personnel have been deployed during the polling process.
Meanwhile, media will not be allowed inside the house for coverage of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Mayor elections.
