Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday fielded former Congress leader Dinesh Pratap Singh against Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli. The saffron party also named candidates who will take on Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Singh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh.
Dinesh Pratap Singh, who was elected to the state legislative council for the second time in 2016 and left the Congress last year. He will contest against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who is holding the Rae Bareli parliamentary seat since 2004.
In Azamgarh, Bhojpuri singer Dinesh Lal Yadav will contest against the former chief minister and SP president Akhilesh Yadav.
Similarly, Prem Singh Shakya has been named the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, from where SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav will contest.
