Back at work, Rahul meets Kumaraswamy & Sharad Pawar

New Delhi: With rumours rife of Rahul Gandhi stepping down from Congress President post, he met NCP chief Sharad Pawar and JDS chief H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday.

Rahul Gandhi met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar at the latter’s residence to discuss the political situation. While Pawar denied, speculation has risen regarding a possible merger of Congress and NCP.

The two leaders are said to have agreed that the Opposition parties need to focus on the key States that go to the polls later this year, including Maharashtra.

“Congress President Mr. @RahulGandhi met up with me today at my residence in Delhi. We discussed matters pertaining to the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha Elections and the drought situation in Maharashtra,” Pawar posted on Twitter.

Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy met Rahul Gandhi at his residence for a meeting, joined by former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. The leaders discussed the political situation in Karnataka where the Congress is facing dissidence from a section of its MLAs.

“The CM apprised Rahul Gandhi of the current political situation in the state and said the coalition government in the State is functioning smoothly with cooperation and coordination between both the parties,” an official statement from the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

After keeping away from any political meetings for over six days, a meeting of the Gandhi scion with these powerhouses of the leaders could mean things moving in a positive way for the Congress party.
