Arvind Kejriwal to sit on indefinite fast from March 1 for full statehood for Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that he will sit on an indefinite fast from March 1 to demand full statehood for the national capital.

“From 1st March I will begin hunger strike. I am going to fast till we get statehood. I am ready to face death,” Kejriwal said in the Delhi assembly.

Speaking to media persons after coming out of the assembly, the Chief Minister reiterated his plan to sit on an indefinite hunger strike.

“Democracy has been implemented in the entire nation, but not Delhi. Public votes and elects a government, but the government has no power. So we’re starting a movement on March 1 and I will sit on an indefinite fast for the full statehood of Delhi,” Kejriwal was quoted as saying by news agency ANI

The chief minister’s decision came a day after he said that his party will ensure full statehood status for Delhi within two years if AAP wins all seven seats.
