Arvind Kejriwal arrest: Delhi court orders 15-day judicial custody for CM in connection with liquor policy scam

New Delhi: In the latest development, a Delhi Court ordered judicial custody for CM Arvind Kejriwal till April 15. This comes after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) asked for a 15-day custody of the CM. The ED cited his “non cooperative behavior” in connection with the liquor policy scam.

Arvind Kejriwal was produced before a Delhi court on Monday after his previously extended ED custody ended. Since being taken into custody, Arvind Kejriwal has been governing Delhi from the jail. His wife, Sunita Kejriwal, has been passing his orders to his cabinet.

On Sunday, Sunita Kejriwal even participated in the Mega rally by Opposition INDIA bloc and read out a message on behalf of her husband. She even called Arvind Kejriwal as “freedom fighter” and “sher” for working for the betterment of Delhi people even from jail.

Back on March 28, Special Judge Kaweri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court extended his ED custody, holding that there were “sufficient reasons”. However, she allowed him to meet his family members and lawyers. However, she had allowed him to meet his family members and lawyers.

On Thursday, the probe agency sought the Delhi Chief Minister’s custody for seven more days. However, after hearing the arguments, the court extended the AAP supremo’s ED remand by four days till April 1, observing that there appear to be “sufficient reasons” to permit his further custodial interrogation, particularly keeping in view the submissions of the ED.

On March 21, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal after two hours of questioning at his residence. The team questioned him in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, recording his statement under Section 50 of the PMLA.
