5 Militants, Pregnant Woman Killed In Jammu And Kashmir

Srinagar: Five terrorists and a pregnant woman were killed in three separate incidents in Kashmir on Friday. Seven soldiers were also injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on Thursday night.

Firdousa Jan, wife of Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh from Shadimarg in Pulwam sustained a fatal bullet injury on Friday evening after security forces and militants exchanged fire. The security forces resorted to gunfire after militants fired a grenade from an under barrel grenade launcher at an Army camp in Shadimarg. The woman killed was six months into her pregnancy.

Prior to this, two militants were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces at a checkpoint near Kralhar on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway around 1.30 p.m. The killed militants were identified as Pakistani nationals Faizan and Wahab from Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit.

The Army also thwarted an infiltration bid and gunned down three militants in the Rampur area of Baramulla along the Line of Control (LoC).

Furthermore, seven Army men were injured and a vehicle damaged in an IED blast in the Lassipora area on Thursday night. Keeping in mind the volatile situation in the valley, Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar were suspended.
