2 terrorists killed in encounter in Sopore of Jammu & Kashmir

New Delhi: Two terrorists of proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter in Sopore of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, said Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Friday.

The encounter broke out at Warpora village in Sopore on Thursday evening.

On the basis of reliable information about presence of terrorists, a joint team of the police and the army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Reportedly, one top terrorist commander along with an associate were trapped in a house in Warpora, where the police and security forces were engaged in the encounter. Following this the two terrorists were encountered by the security forces.

IGP Kashmir informed that one of them, identified as Fayaz War, was involved in several attacks and killings of civilians and security forces personnel. He was the last perpetrator of violence in north Kashmir.

The team of security forces has also seized incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from the spot.

Meanwhile IGP Kashmir has congratulated police and security forces for conducting successful operation without any collateral damage.

The encounter has now concluded, however the search operation is still underway, added reports.
