2 men arrested on suspicion of being Pakistani spy in UP

ATS of Uttar Pradesh Police has apprehended two individuals suspected of spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.

Lucknow: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police has apprehended two individuals suspected of spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and involvement in terror financing, as per an official statement released on Sunday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Amrit Gill, also known as Amrit Pal (25), hailing from Punjab’s Bhatinda, and Riyazuddin (36), a resident of Faridnagar in Ghaziabad.

According to the ATS, Amrit Gill was arrested on November 23 from Bathinda and brought to Lucknow on transit remand, while Riyazuddin was summoned to the ATS headquarters for questioning and subsequently arrested on Sunday.

The ATS received information indicating that some individuals were receiving funds from suspicious sources, which were allegedly being utilized for terror-related activities and espionage. The investigation revealed that the duo was transmitting “sensitive confidential information” to the ISI in exchange for monetary gains.

An FIR has been registered against Riyazuddin, Izharul Haq, and others at the ATS police station under the relevant sections. Haq, currently incarcerated in a Bihar jail, will be brought to Lucknow for further questioning in connection with the case.

During the evidence collection process, the ATS checked Riyazuddin’s bank accounts and discovered transactions totaling Rs 70 lakh between March and April 2022, transferred to various accounts. The money was allegedly sent to auto driver Amrit Gill, who, in turn, provided information to the ISI, including details about the Indian Army’s tanks.

Riyazuddin and Haq reportedly met while working on welding projects in Rajasthan and have since been working for the Pakistani intelligence agency while maintaining communication with each other.

Preliminary evidence and interrogation suggest that Gill was in contact with Pakistani ISI agents, sharing sensitive and restricted information related to the Indian Army. In return for his activities, he allegedly received financial support with the assistance of Riyazuddin and Haq.

Further investigation is underway.
