2 killed, many injured after clash breaks out among inmates in Punjab jail

Amritsar: Two inmates were killed, while two others were injured after a clash broke out amongst prisoners in a jail in Punjab’s Sangrur.

Revealing about the incident, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Patiala range) Surinder Singh Saini, said nine inmates attacked four prisoners kept in a barrack when they were being shifted to a cell at 7 pm. Following the matter, the cops have initiated a probe into the matter.

The deceased have been identified as Harsh and Dharmender, while the injured inmates were identified as Gagandeep Singh and Mohd Sehwaz.

After the clash broke out, the four were rushed to the nearby hospital, however, two were declared brought dead. Meanwhile, the injured inmates were shifted to a hospital in Patiala. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Earlier last month, a group clash erupted between Chakradhar Barik group and Shambhunath Barik group in Jharpada jail of the capital city of Odisha. In the clash, Shambhunath Barik was severely injured and was rushed to the Capital Hospital.

Reportedly, the gangs have been involved in drug dealing. There was conflict about drug trade in the jail. The superintendent of prison Lakshmi Sagar has informed the police station. Reports suggest that the fight ensued after a mobile was found in the jail.
