Bhubaneswar: While many media houses and outfits alleged illegal transportation of cows on Kochuveli-Guwahati Express last night, Kalinga TV had reported that it was definitely legal and the fringe elements went overboard.
We argued that since an entire parcel van was booked for 20 Cows, who were medically tested to produce milk; accompanied by a Vet, 4 Caretakers and enough fodder, it cannot be illegal cattle trade.
We stand verified after the tweets by CCM Southern Railways came to light today. The Southern Railways have confirmed the transportation and even mentioned that they earned Rs 2.65 lakh towards the parcel van cost.
While Railways hailed the initiative as a big step towards generating revenue, the Cow Vigilantes or Gau Rakshaks not only played the spoilsport, but also took the law into their hand.
Tweets by CCM, Southern Railways:
“Southern Railway’s unique initiative to expand parcel traffic by commencing transportation of Live stock in Parcel Vans. (1/2).”
“First Ever Transportation of 20 Cows in parcel vans by SR from Salem to Guwahati on 23/05 with earnings of Rs. 2.65 lakh. (2/2).”
