Want to apply for colored Voter ID ahead of 2024 elections? Here’s how

Holders of the black-and-white Voter ID cards can replace it with the new colored version by following some simple steps.

Holding a voter ID card is a must for people above 18 years of age in order to be able to cast their votes. It is also known as the Electoral Photo ID Card (EPIC). Previously, a voter ID card meant a laminated piece of paper containing your name, photo, and other required details.

However, the voter ID card underwent a transformation in the year 2015. Colored version of Voter ID cards were introduced that year.

As of the present time, the Election Commission issues colored Voter ID cards to both, new and existing voters. People with the previous version of black-and-white Voter ID cards have the provision to replace it with the new colored version with a minimal cost of Rs 30.

The new colored version of Voter ID card contains the holder’s name, photo, address, constituency, and date of birth. In order to apply for a voter ID card, certain steps are to be followed. If you want to apply for your Voter ID card ahead of the 2024 elections, here’s how:

Online application process for Voter ID cards

  • Access the National Voter’s Service Portal (NVSP) website at nvsp.in
  • Click on the ‘Voter Portal’ box on the homepage.
  • Click on ‘Create a new account’ to get yourself registered.
  • You will also find the provision to sign in via your Google, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn account.
  • Fill in the required details and submit your application.
  • It is advisable to keep tracking the status of your application.

Offline application process for Voter ID cards

  • Visit your nearest e-Seva or Mee Seva office.
  • Remember to carry all necessary documents along with you.
  • People between the age of 18-21 are to carry their age proof along with them as well.
  • Fill out the ‘Form 6’ provided to you with all accurate details.
  • Submit your form with required documents.
  • Your colored Voter ID card will be issued after verification and authentication by the Election Commission.
