PAN card correction: Know how to update, correct details online

PAN helps the government monitor the financial transactions, any incorrect information on your PAN could cause problems in the future.

The Permanent Account Number Card (PAN) is a unique 10-digit alphanumeric identifier that is issued by the Indian Income Tax Department. The PAN card holds extreme importance in India, not only for Income Tax purposes but also as proof of identity.

PAN helps the government monitor the financial transactions of an individual, such as investments, loans, and property purchases.

Any incorrect information on your PAN could cause problems in the future. Therefore, it is important that you correct your PAN’s mistakes as soon as possible. You can update or change information like your name, birth date, picture, signature, father’s name, Aadhaar number, gender, address, and contact information.

If any of the details are incorrect, you can apply for a correction on your PAN card. To correct the details on your PAN card, you can submit a request for correction along with the required documents, which can take a maximum of 15–30 days. Or you can either visit the NSDL PAN website or the UTIITSL PAN website.

HOW TO UPDATE PAN CARD ON NSDL OR UTIITSL WEBSITE

  • Step 1: Go to the NSDL PAN website: https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html or the UTIITSL website: https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN/csf.html.
  • Step 2: Click on the “Change or Correction in PAN Data” link.
  • Step 3: Select the “Changes or Corrections in Existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card (No Changes in Existing PAN Data)” option from the “Application Type” dropdown menu.
  • Step 4: Select the correct category for the assessee from the “Category” dropdown menu.
  • Step 5: Enter your PAN number and click on the “Submit” button.

Then you will be redirected to a new page where you need to enter the details that you want to correct.

  • Step 6: Upload the required documents and pay the application fee.
  • Step 7: Click on the ‘Submit’ button to complete the application process.

After submitting your application, you will receive an acknowledgement number. Using your acknowledgement number, you can track the status of your application by logging into the NSDL or UTIITSL website.
