R Madhavan to be next President of India’s Premier Film Institute, FTII

Renowned actor R. Madhavan has been nominated as the President of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Mumbai: In a significant development for the Indian film industry, renowned actor R. Madhavan has been nominated as the President of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). This announcement comes shortly after Madhavan’s film, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,’ secured the prestigious National Award for the Best Feature Film.

Madhavan assumes the prestigious position, taking over from the celebrated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who held the office since September 30, 2020.

The news was officially shared by the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, through his social media account, formerly known as Twitter. Minister Thakur expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Madhavan and extended his best wishes.

“Heartiest congratulations to @ActorMadhavan ji on being nominated as President of @FTIIOfficial and Chairman of the governing council. I’m sure that your vast experience & strong ethics will enrich this institute, bring positive changes & take it to a higher level,” Minister Thakur wrote in his tweet.

Madhavan, known for his versatile acting and contribution to Indian cinema, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His commitment to the craft of filmmaking and his recent recognition through the National Award for ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ highlight his dedication to the art of cinema.

On the professional front, Madhavan has also embarked on a new project, where he will portray the life of inventor Gopalswamy Doraisamy Naidu, often referred to as the ‘Edison of India.’ The biopic, directed by Mithran R. Jawahar, features Punnagai Poo Gheetha as the female lead.
