#MeToo Movement: Sajid Khan Steps Down As Director Of ‘Housefull 4’

Mumbai: After being accused of sexually harassing a journalist, Sajid Khan has stepped down as the director of the upcoming film Housefull 4. Akshay Kumar, who is a part of the ensemble starcast, cancelled his shooting today after allegations were made on Sajid Khan. The matter cropped up in the wake of the on-going #MeToo movement in India where several women are coming forward and speaking about the sexual harassment they have faced in the industry.

Expressing shock and disgust, Farhan Akhtar, who happens to be a cousin of Sajid Khan tweeted- “I cannot adequately stress how shocked, disappointed and heartbroken I am to read the stories about Sajid’s behaviour. I don’t know how but he will have to find a way to atone for his alleged actions.”

Sajid’s filmmaker sister Farah Khan also expressed outrage and wrote on twitter- “This is a heartbreaking time for my family. We have to work through some very difficult issues. If my brother has behaved in this manner he has a lot to atone for. I don’t in any way endorse this behaviour and Stand in solidarity with any woman who has been hurt.”

Akshay Kumar’s wife, Twinkle Khanna also expressed disgust at the matter. She said, “Appalled hearing multiple incidents of harassment and it is truly horrific to hear what these women have been through. Everyone involved in Housefull needs to take a firm stance on this issue. This cannot go on.”

Meanwhile, Nana Patekar, who has been accused of sexual harassment by actress and former Miss India Tanushree Dutta, has quit ‘Housefull 4’. His son Malhar Nana Patekar informed about the veteran actor’s decision. Taking serious note of the #MeTooIndia movement, the Ministry of Women and Child Development on Friday announced that it will set up a committee to examine all such cases.
