The 29th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) kicked off on December 5, 2023, in Kolkata, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal. The event witnessed a moment of glamour and entertainment as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to the stage alongside Bollywood celebrities Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Mahesh Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Sourav Ganguly, Raj Chakraborty, Locket Chatterjee, and others for a lively dance performance to the KIFF theme song.
A viral video captured the charismatic Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, showing off her dance moves with the Bollywood stars. The performance added a touch of joy and camaraderie to the film festival, bringing together political and entertainment figures on one stage.
Salman Khan, a chief guest at KIFF 2023, addressed the enthusiastic audience, expressing his delight at the grandeur of the film festival. The Bollywood actor playfully interacted with the crowd, remarking, “Yuhi chillate rehna aaplog. Aur mujhe bolne ka mauka nahi dena (Keep roaring, don’t give me a chance to speak).”
Khan also shared a light-hearted anecdote about visiting Mamata Banerjee’s house, jokingly expressing jealousy at the Chief Minister’s modest residence compared to his own.
The Kolkata International Film Festival, initiated in 1995, draws inspiration from legendary filmmakers like Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, and Mrinal Sen. The 29th edition, taking place from December 5 to 12, continues to celebrate the significant contributions of Bengal’s luminaries to global cinema. Endorsed by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Association (FIAPF), KIFF 2023 promises a week of cinematic excellence and cultural festivities in the heart of Kolkata.
