Lata Mangeshkar’s Birthday: President, PM wish her long & healthy life

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished the legendary Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar a “long and healthy life” on her 89th birthday.

Taking to his twitter handle, President Kovind said, “Birthday greetings and best wishes for a long and healthy life to @mangeshkarlata, who has been honoured with the Bharat Ratna. May her melodious voice continue to mesmerise millions across the world for years to come #PresidentKovind.”

“Respected Lata Didi, best wishes to you on your birthday. Your exceptional work, spanning decades has endeared you to crores of Indians. You have always been passionate about our country’s development. May you lead a long life filled with good health. @mangeshkarlata,” said the Prime Minister on his official Twitter handle.

Lata Mangeshkar, who was born on September 28, 1929 in Indore, began her career in 1942 and now is one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in the country.

In a career span of over seven decades, she has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films. Besides, she has lent her melodies voice for over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages.

Lata Mangeshkar has received three National Film Awards, 12 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards and many more.

After late Indian singer M. S. Subbulakshmi, she is also the second vocalist to have ever been conferred with the Bharat Ratna in 2001.
