First look of Chhapaak revealed

Mumbai: The first look of Chhapaak was revealed by the film’s lead Deepika Padukone and maker Meghna Gulzar on Monday.

Deepika’s character is called ‘Malti’ is based on real-life acid attack victim Laxmi agarwal. Laxmi, who is an inspiration herself, has been working for more victims just like her.

Laxmi survived an acid attack at the age of 15. She was attacked by a man and his two friends because she refused to marry the former. Since the incident, she has been campaigning against acid violence and the sale of acid. She founded an organisation called Stop Sale Acid to achieve this goal.

Laxmi Agarwal was bestowed with the 2014 International Women of Courage award by the then US First Lady Michelle Obama.

The film Chhapaak will also have talented Vikrant Massey and will be jointly produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika Padukone’s own KA Entertainment and Meghna Gulzar’s Mriga Films.

The shoot of the Chhapaak has already begun and it is scheduled to be a January 2020 release.
