Bhumi Pednekar Opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rakesh Sharma Biopic?

Mumbai: Actor Shah Rukh Khan is all set to star in the biopic of Rakesh Sharma titled ‘Salute’. The film is based on the life astronaut Rakesh Sharma who was the first Indian to travel to space.

Before finalizing SRK, the makers were keen to have Aamir Khan on board. However, the perfectionist did not agree to sign the dotted line due to creative differences with the producers. After Shah Rukh Khan gave his nod, the makers are now on a look out for the female lead opposite him.

According to reports, the makers have finally zeroed down on actress Bhumi Pednekar to star opposite SRK in Salute, although an official confirmation is awaited. According to Filmfare, the makers met Bhumi a few days ago to discuss the script. They haven’t yet locked her but she is one of their choices. The screen time for the female lead won’t be much in the biopic, hence none of the bigger actresses are taking it up.

If things fall into place then ‘Salute’ may prove to be a breakthrough for Bhumi who has earlier starred in successful films like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Toilet- Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Savdhaan. On the work front, she will next be seen in the dacoit drama Chambal opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. Besides Chambal, Bhumi will also star in Karan Johar’s magnum opus ‘Takht’ where she will be playing the role of Aurangzeb’s wife Dilras Banu Begum.

Set in the Mughal period, ‘Takht’ has an ensemble starcast of Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Janhvi Kapoor. The movie will showcase a gamut of human emotions but chiefly centre around relationship dynamics, betrayal and court politics in the Mughal era.
