Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon shares Best actress at the 69th National Film Awards

Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon have won the Best Actress Award at the 69th National Film Awards for ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Mimi’

Bollywood actresses Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon have won the Best Actress Award at the 69th National Film Awards for their performances in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Mimi’ respectively.

Kriti Sanon shared that she was in a meeting at her house when she started getting the calls and was completely unaware about her Best Actress win. She said, “I couldn’t understand what was going on. I usually don’t step outside the meetings to take calls but this time I had to, and that’s when I really got to know the news. I was so elated and emotional that I had to pause the meeting and run down to give my parents a hug and tell them the news and then everybody was really emotional. It’s a moment that I will never ever forget in my life”.

She also extended her best wishes to her ‘Mimi’ co-actor Pankaj Tripathi, who also has bagged the Best Supporting Actor Award for ‘Mimi’.

Kriti Sanon posted a long message on Instagram and wrote a note for Alia at the end, “Congratulations Aliaaaa! So so well deserved! I’ve always admired your work and I’m too excited that I got to share this huge moment with you!”

She captioned the post as, “Eyes are moist, Heart is full! (red heart emoji) The National Award : Best Actress for Mimi (namaste emojis) #Blessed #Grateful (butterfly emoji).”

Released in 2022, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh and Ajay Devgn. The film is about Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was documented in the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film depicts the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour.

The comedy-drama ‘Mimi’ is directed by Laxman Utekar. The film is a remake of the 2011 Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy!, it stars Kriti, who opts to be a surrogate mother for a foreign couple. Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Manoj Pahwa and Supriya Pathak.
